Exploring the Overlooked West Side of Salt Lake City

While often overshadowed by other parts of downtown, the west side of Salt Lake City played a crucial role in the development of the city, the state, and the Western United States as a whole.

A Step Back in Time: Salt Lake City's Historic Warehouse District

Our journey begins in the historic warehouse district, once a hub of commerce and transportation. Dominated by two historic train stations, this area tells the story of Salt Lake City’s past. One of our first stops is the magnificently restored Union Pacific Station, where countless travelers passed through following the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, just north of the city. Walking through this grand building offers a glimpse into the city’s rich railroad history.

Gateway Mall, Pioneer Park & Street Art

Continuing our exploration, we’ll make our way through Gateway Mall, a modern development built on historic grounds. As we move toward Pioneer Park, we’ll encounter striking street art that adds a contemporary layer to the city’s evolving identity.

Temple Square & Historic Landmarks

No visit to downtown Salt Lake City is complete without a stop at Temple Square. As we leave Main Street behind, we’ll pass by some of the city's most iconic historic buildings, including the Beehive House and Lion House, both tied to the legacy of Brigham Young. Of course, the tour wouldn’t be complete without admiring the grandeur of the Salt Lake Temple.

A Musical Finale

If time permits, we’ll conclude our journey by attending the daily organ recital at the Tabernacle on Temple Square—a perfect way to end a day of exploring the rich history and culture of Salt Lake City.
