Patriarchate of Peja/Peć dates from the 13th century and features a number of crumbling religious buildings, accommodation (still inhabited by nuns) and the crowning glory, the monastery church that is, in fact, several small churches built together. This site is part of the "Medieval Monuments in Kosovo", a combined UNESCO World Heritage Site along with three other monuments of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo.

During medieval and early modern times it was also used as a mausoleum of Serbian archbishops and patriarchs. The monastery church is unique in its architecture, with three churches connected as one whole, with a total of four churches. The main reason for visiting is without a doubt to see the countless extraordinary frescoes, of which many date from the founding of the church. Painted both inside and out, there are too many to mention here, all of them breathtaking and many still in extremely good condition.
