The most important museum is the National Archaeological Museum of Athens that includes masterpieces from all over the country.

Starting with the royal tombs in Mycaene round 1500BC, full in gold, following Greek history and art through centuries, statues, golden jewels, funerary monuments, wallpaintings from the island Santorin, burried under the lava of the volcano  that erupted round 1500BC, like a prehistoric Pompey, masterpieces in bronze, like the symbol of the museum , the famous Poseidon caught by fishermen from the bottom of the Aegean sea, to the current famous exhibition of the first computer of the world, the mechanism of Anticythera.

The last exhibits chronologically cover the Roman period, to the first centuries after Christ.
