Rabat remains a vibrant hub of tourism activity, showcasing an impressive 49% surge in overnight stays registered within designated Tourist Accommodation Establishments (TAEs) as of the conclusion of June 2023, according to data from the Tourism Observatory.
During the initial half of the year, a total of 395,875 overnight stays were logged, demonstrating a significant increase from 264,982 during the equivalent period in 2022 and 383,950 in 2019.
The report from the Tourism Observatory further discloses an occupancy rate of 51% for the month of June 2023.
This accomplishment has been paralleled by heightened arrivals at Rabat-Salé Airport during the January-June timeframe, witnessing the arrival of 210,244 tourists.
This figure marks a substantial rise from the 135,866 arrivals at the end of June 2022.
In the standalone month of June, the number of overnight stays within Rabat’s TAEs witnessed a 14% upsurge, with 72,670 stays recorded compared to 63,666 stays in June 2022.
With regard to arrivals at Rabat-Salé Airport, the month of June saw 37,844 tourists arriving, reflecting a 3% increase in comparison to the same month of the preceding year (34,963 tourists).
At the national level, the cumulative overnight stays across TAEs experienced a substantial 86% year-on-year growth by the conclusion of June 2023, relative to the January-June period of 2022.
Among these figures, non-resident tourists witnessed a remarkable 134% increase, while resident tourists saw a solid 25% growth.
In terms of monetary gains, the non-resident tourist activity in Morocco generated a significant sum of 47.9 billion Moroccan dirhams throughout the first half of 2023.
This figure underscores a notable 69% expansion in comparison to the equivalent period in 2022, which had recorded revenues of 28.3 billion Moroccan dirhams.
