Shebenik is the largest Park in the country and the only one whose part is protected by UNESCO. Studying the terrain and taking from the first experiences of other people, we started organizing camps to see the stars. We are proud to be the first in Albania to offer this service.

The annual Perseid meteor shower lights up the skies around the world, dazzling those hoping to catch a glimpse of what is also known as shooting stars. The phenomenon brings up to 100 meteors an hour as the earth collides with the debris left behind by comet 109P. As the debris hits the earth's atmosphere, it burns up, resulting in bright flashes known as shooting stars, which can be seen with the naked eye. The natural spectacle occurs at similar times in July and August every year, while the peak is August 11.12.13. Meteors, which can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pea, hit the earth's atmosphere at a speed of 215 thousand kilometres per hour. Waste that burns up in the atmosphere poses no danger to humans on Earth. This is considered one of the best astronomical events as it produces bright meteors and is one of the most active. The phenomenon is called the Perseid meteor shower, as the meteors seem to originate from the constellation Perseus, named after a figure in Greek mythology.

In recent years, the camp has seen an increase in the number of tourists who come to enjoy the falling stars. Last year, there was also high media attention mentioning BBC, DW, etc. They often ask us why in Shebenik. To see this phenomenon, you must be away from the lights; the sky is dark and clear, and Šebenik is in a favourable position on the astronomical map, which helps to see the falls with unobstructed eyes.

I remember the first organized year, we had about 70 local and foreign tourists. Last year, we had over 400 local and Albanian tourists on three different nights. This camp is accessible for all ages since the terrain is easy, and we have the possibility to adapt to the needs of the visitors. The youngest we have had was four years old, while the oldest was 75 years old. Therefore, we welcome all ages to be part of this unforgettable experience.
