Entrance Gate
Mangrove Center Balikpapan is located at Graha Indah, West Balikpapan district at East Kalimantan. About 15 km from the city center, it covers an area of 150 hectares.

This area is inhabited by local community group called Kelompok Kerja Mangrove Soneratia, led by Mr. Agus Bei who is also the chief leader of this housing community "Graha Indah". He is also the pioneer, who planted mangrove trees in this area in 2001. Right now the land has more than 15.000 trees.
Proboscis Monkey
There are 40 type of mangroves that grow at the Mangrove Center, bakau or rhyzopora mucronata have become the dominant plant. The highlight attraction here is the proboscis monkey (nasalis larvatus) or in local language - bekantan. More than 400 proboscis monkeys can be found in the trees in this area, mostly in the late afternoon or early morning, when they search for food.

The local community provide some klothok for the visitor who want to take a trip for passing the river Somber. Mangrove tree is very important for this community, because it provides fresh air, a good habitat for the proboscis monkey, the root from the tree is also an ideal place for the fish including the local fish called tempakul or periophthalmus gracilis.
