Kurds are an Iranian ethnic group whose names are associated with some words; toughness, big moustache, baggy trousers, mountain ("No friend, but mountains") but, at the same time; gallantry, beauty, dance, music, kindness, hospitality, colours and so on.
Among the Kurd traditions, Nowrouz celebration is probably the most popular (like other Iranians). A few days before the arrival of spring, in some villages of Kurdistan, people make a big fire and dance around it. They wear traditional, colourful, lively, and sparkling clothes. The spectacular and warm atmosphere puts an end to winter. As for the urban areas, we can talk about Sanandaj, the capital of Iranian Kurdistan; as articulated by Lonely Planet - "Even by Iran's super-hospitable standards, Sanandaj is a remarkably friendly city". UNESCO also chose Sanandaj as a Creative City of Music in 2019.
