A Scenic Journey to Lake Lalla Takkerkoust and the Ourika Valley: A Day of Stunning Landscapes and Local Culture

Begin your adventure with a relaxing breakfast at your hotel before setting out for an unforgettable day trip to Lake Lalla Takkerkoust and the surrounding areas. The journey promises breathtaking landscapes, charming Berber villages, and incredible views of the High Atlas Mountains.

Drive to Lake Lalla Takkerkoust

At 9:00 a.m., your vehicle departs from your hotel in Marrakech, heading towards the beautiful Lake Lalla Takkerkoust, located just outside the city. The drive takes you through the stunning Moroccan countryside as you approach the dam, where the road takes a turn onto a track that leads you through the plain, offering vast, open views. As you ascend the Kik Plateau, the scenery becomes even more spectacular, with Lake Lalla Takkerkoust as the central focal point of your journey.

The track meanders through fertile lands covered in cereal crops and passes by several traditional Berber villages, where you can catch a glimpse of rural life in the High Atlas Mountains. The towering High Atlas range with its peaks reaching over 4,000 meters will dominate the view throughout, providing a majestic backdrop to the lush green plains below.

Ascent to the Kik Plateau and Moulay Brahim

The journey continues as the track climbs to the Kik Plateau, reaching an altitude of 1,350 meters just before Moulay Brahim. This area offers some of the most stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. During the winter and spring months, the snow-capped peaks of Mont Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain, create an even more dramatic scene, providing ample opportunities for stunning photos.

Descent to the Asni Valley and the Tizi n'Test Road

As you descend from the plateau into the Asni Valley, the landscape changes, and you will begin to notice the change in terrain, from the rugged plateaus to the valley’s more tranquil beauty. Following the famous Tizi n'Test road, your journey continues as you pass through the Moulay Brahim gorges, one of the region's most impressive natural landmarks.

Once you reach the Tahanaoute area, a secondary road will take you towards Thnine Ourika, another charming village nestled in the valley. From here, you will ascend the Ourika Valley, where you can admire the surrounding mountain streams and traditional Berber villages.

Lunch and Exploration in the Ourika Valley

After a scenic drive through the valley, you will arrive at a lovely restaurant in the Ourika Valley, where a delicious traditional Moroccan lunch awaits. Enjoy the flavorful dishes, including the iconic Berber tajine, while surrounded by the lush greenery and flowing streams of the valley. It’s the perfect opportunity to relax, reflect on the journey so far, and soak in the beauty of the Atlas Mountains.

Return to Marrakech

After a satisfying lunch and some time to relax in the peaceful Ourika Valley, you will begin your return journey to Marrakech. As you drive back, take in the serene views of the valley and the mountains, knowing that you’ve experienced some of Morocco’s most stunning landscapes and traditional culture.
