To reach the Borobudur terrace, one has to climb 61 stone steps from the east side entrance gate. If you wish, we can stop there for sometime and click pictures of the beautiful nature that surrounds the spot.
Then we turn left towards the south east corner and see the enlightening Kamadatu Law of Karma reliefs etched in 160 panels (4 are visible from that spot). These panels have precious Buddhist narrations which Lord Buddha passed on to his followers.
From here we take the small ally which goes up to the second floor.
Continue relief searching and move towards the 3rd level, where we come across 120 panels that narrate the life of Lord Buddha – it is called Lalitavistara.
To read the entire panel, we have to walk around about a half km distance.
We move to the 4th level and find Jataka reliefs there which go upto the 7th floor. The reliefs here chronicle the Gandayudha and while reading them, we will reach the area called Aruphadatu.
On the top at the highest level, attend the spiritual ceremony called Pradakshina (circumambulation). Make circular rotations by walking silently around the main stupa 3 – 7 times. While doing this, say your prayers to the Buddha and also get a panoramic view of the temple. No matter what religion you follow, the spiritual act assures you one treasure and that is peace of mind.
Walking down towards the north-side ground, we reach the UNESCO listed terraces that attract tourists from all over the world.
We wish you a wonderful trip and gift you memories of a lifetime.
