Harbin had its first heavy snow this year recently. Songhua river was frozen then and covered with the white snow. Recently, Harbin Winter Swimming Committee built a small outdoor swimming pool at bank of the frozen river, which attracts more visitors. Coz everyday you can find dozens of swimmers to go polar bear swimming there, they jump into the cold pool and have water ballet inside, and sometimes they even have a bath inside. The water of the pool drops to zero degree, and pool is always frozen every 30 minutes. To keep the cold pool with flowing water, the swimmers there have to break the ice by using the long iron bar every 30 minutes. Amazing, isn’t it?
The swimmers from the Swimming Committee are very professional, they are very healthy and never catch cold. They actually swim all year around, in summertime they swim across the Songhua river, and in wintertime they go polar bear swimming in the cold outdoor pool, this is very impressive!
The current small swimming pool will be enlarged to a bigger one at the end of Dec, which is about 100 meters long and 30 meters wide. Therefore the bigger swimming pool can fit more swimmers to have water ballet inside. Ok, what are you waiting for? Let us go winter swimming there!
