Licensed guides of Guatemala like many countries in the world are people with extensive knowledge in different fields of work many times with teaching experience of preference with a University degree. To enjoy your visit to the fullest we highly recommend you to demand a License from both the company organizing the tour and the guide providing the service. These licenses should be credited by the Board of tourism known as INGUAT. These licenses provide information of the guide like first and last name, ID #, Area of Guatemala He/she is authorized to work in, also languages spoken.
Guides in Guatemala are required to constantly present proof of having a clean criminal record and participating in annual trainning organized by the board of tourism (INGUAT.On the license that guides are requested to carry in a visible form also has an expiration date. If the guides license would be expired means he is not up to date and is not trust worthy. Licenses can be Blue / white for General guide meaning they are authorized for the whole country, Red / white meanig they can only guide local like only Tikal or Antigua and Green/white meaning they have less training and eduaction and are authorized for a community only. The knowledge of how tour guide's cerification work should help you prevent from having bad expiriences while traveling to a destination like this where may things are not so well develope and much of this information is not passed on to others. By contracting professional licensed services you will contribute to the proper development of a destination and ensure that you are helping the right people. The people who have made the best of themselves to receive you with the quality of service you deserve.
