Some people believe that the history of graffiti originated in the 1960s in Philadelphia. While the term "graffiti" might have been coined during that period, the very desire to draw something on the walls and express your emotions/ideas was present when our ancestors practised the same artistry in caves.
Nowadays, society is divided into two opinions. The first one is that graffiti is malicious and vandalistic. The second, graffiti gives a modern soul to the busy-mapped streets. Fortunately, the Georgian administration authorities found the perfect solution to balance these opinions!
Georgia's flourishing street art scene is a relatively recent phenomenon. In 2012, the authority announced grants on graffiti projects and indicated project locations. Although graffiti is restricted in Old Town as numerous buildings are part of the cultural heritage, one can spot the famous Tbilisi Graffiti jewels all over the city.
