I-2- Presentation of the Ganvié Nautical Sports Association

The AGSN, incorporated in the Republic of Benin in accordance with the law of July 1, 1991, and governed by Law No. 91-008 of February 25, 1991, on the sports charter, is a group of young people whose purpose is the development and practice of sports as well as the development of athletes and populations in general. Indeed, it is no longer a secret that sport is an activity essential to the physical and moral balance of any individual. Its main function of putting the man in harmony with himself and allow the mixing of cultures while bringing people together around the same passion. It keeps busy positively young people, transforms them and avoids them if it is well managed to fall into crime. It is a true source of peace.

In Benin, there are several types of sports disciplines that have heterogeneously developed. Among these, sports nautical in general and the canoe race, in particular, plays the role of poor parent. Suffering from a general disinterest of the population and a lack of development, these sporting activities are very little valued and, therefore, very little practised. In order to offer a new alternative in terms of sports activity to the population and young people, in particular, it is urgent to really install these sports practices. It is, therefore,  in the perspective of concretizing this ambition that the sports association called Association Ganvié Sport Nautique was born, which has set itself the major objective of mobilizing young people aged 16 to 25 without gender distinction for a good mix of sporting youth, contributes to popularize nautical sports and develop the frank sport,  in particular,  in Benin and encourage and develop the spirit of competition and fair play around this nautical sports discipline; “Rowing”, involving Benin in sub-regional and international competitions.

Indeed, the Association Ganvié Sports Nautiques (AGSN) is a small association which plans to promote recreational and competitive rowing, canoe and pedal boat races in Benin (the AGSN carries out its activities in Ganvié, a lakeside town, a tourist site registered on the indicative heritage list World Heritage Site, which presents natural assets). AGSN is one of the clubs that provide the best athletes to the National Benin Rowing Federation for sub-regional and continental competitions. But the Association's activities remain very embryonic and little known to the population and possible sponsors. It is, therefore, in the search for solutions necessary for the development of these sports that this project was initiated.
