Amazing: Gemja-Bet Maryam church is found in Gondar inside the enclosure of Fasiledes castel . The church has rich religious painting drawn by different artist. Most of these paintings were destroyed when the church was burnt down by the Mehadists force in1888 during the reign of Emperor Yohannes IV (r.1872-89). Among those, which survived mercilessly is the painting of St. Mary and her son. This was a painting commissioned by Emperor Yohannes I (r.1667-1682) as he prayed for his people and collected his tear and mix with ink.
