Bromo mountain located at huge crater called caldera, and located in 4 regencies that is Malang regency, Pasuruan regency, Lumajang regency and Probolinggo Regency. Bromo mountain has a height 2.392 meters and Bromo mountain is an active volcano. People living in around Bromo mountain called as Tengger tribe, they were Hindus who were brought from India. These communities have different cultures of the surrounding tribes.
Bromo Mountain become attractive tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists, most of them visit Mount Bromo to see the beauty of the sunrise from the Penanjakan hill. And also to enjoy the beauty of nature, and the sea of sand and also to see the Kasada ceremony.
To enter the area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) can be accessed through multiple locations, that is Nongkojajar of Pasuruan regency, Cemoro Lawang of Probolinggo Regecy, and Jemplang of Malang regency. But for access to the location of Mount Bromo can not use ordinary vehicles, because it is very steep and dangerous it is necessary Four Wheel Drive vehicle (4WD), these vehicles can be rented in the Tosari village and Ngadas Village.
Besides Mount Bromo, on the site there is a waterfall called Madakaripura. According to legend, this waterfall is the hermitage of Gadjah Mada, the commander of the Majapahit kingdom.
Kasada Ceremony
Kasada celebration is celebrated on the full moon in the month of December. This celebration became one of the main purpose of the tourists. The celebration began in the 15th century and originated from a story, is the leader of Tengger tribe Roro Anteng and Joko Seger. This couple wasn’t blessed with children, so they asked to Gods of Mount Bromo for children. Gods of Mount Bromo ordered them that they should sacrifice the last child and they agreed. They were given 25 children and the 25th should be sacrificed to the Gods of Bromo Mountain. But they rejected the condition that they had agreed before, that made the Gods angry and the last child was taken away by The Gods. To remind the world of this tragedy Roro Anteng and Joko Seger initiated a ceremony called Kasodo. The name Tengger also was taken from this couple name, that is Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.
