Mid-way through July and I feel that we have not yet experienced winter, though there is a slight chill in the early morning. Our days are a delight as we are blessed with clear blue skies and kind temperatures. Will winter though catch us unawares? We are not out of the woods yet, so I suggest that you keep those blankets and jerseys nearby.
In October, the War Museum of the Boer Republics is hosting a conference commemorating the 120th anniversary of the Anglo Boer War. The dates the conference will be held is from the 9th-11th and I would recommend that anyone who is interested in our history should attend. On the official website, they have attached the programme of events and I would suggest that you register as soon as possible. Please log onto the website www.wmbr.org.za for costs and registration. History is what makes us as a nation and from learning from our past we strive to improve our future.
For me as a tour guide, it is so important to understand South African as well as World History. We are all “linked” someway or other and this has shaped the course of our history and made us who we are as a nation. Some examples which come to mind is Mapungubwe situated on the banks of the Limpopo River, the early Portuguese and Arab explorers, Shaka with the birth of the Zulu nation, French Huguenot’s and the 1820 Settlers, the list just goes on. We ourselves are making history, for today is tomorrows yesterday, and all that is done or uttered can leave a profound effect on the future. Reflect on your past and consider what your history is!
Please contact me if you are in need of any tours, I am also available for airport transfers and day trips.
