Aladasturi is a wonderful black grape variety, authentic for Western Georgia, which has spread widely in Eastern Georgia in recent years.

Very aromatic; in particular, when you stand by the vine and collect bunches of its aroma "just hugs you." There are bunches in today's photos from the village of Zerti in Kartli.

The name Aladasturi comes from the Arabic words “Allah Dastoor” meaning the permission of Allah. Word has it that when the Arabian invasion took place in Georgia, Arabians fell in love with the wine. Despite the religious restrictions, they drank the wine under the pretext of having permission from the god.

This grape variety is often mentioned in a number of Georgian poems, novels, songs, proverbs or sayings.  However, even though Aladasturi wine is so popular wine for Georgian literature and folklore, you would be surprised to know that production of the wine is not very impressive compared to other Georgian types of wine.

Not many wine companies produce Aladasturi wine . It is produced as a red dry wine by traditional Georgian technology in clay jugs buried in the ground. A couple of years ago, some Georgian wine yards presented to the market a Rose semi-dry wine, that received impressive compliments and reviews from international experts.
