About Yangshuo Yangshuo is located in the north of Guangxi Province of China. It is 67km south of Guilin which is already famous throughout the world for its scenery. In actual fact it is Yangshuo that has the better scenery although it is a much smaller city. The population is only about 36000 and people here are very friendly. Many foreigners love visiting Yangshuo and at one time its most famous street, West St was called by the locals as ‘foreigners (laowei) street’. Everywhere you go you can find most locals being able to communicate with the ‘laowei’ in English. Tourism being the main industry here even elderly folks may amaze you with their language abilities. Two rivers run through Yangshuo. The Li River which also runs through Guilin to the north and the smaller Yulong River. They have made this place famous. No matter which direction you travel when biking, boating, trekking or just relaxing in town you see gorgeous mountain peaks everywhere. It is like being in paradise where the water in the river is clear, the morning air fresh and surrounded by the limestone pinnacles. Rock climbing is one of the famous and popular activities attracting climbers from all over the world. There are many challenging venues and routes for the enthusiasts. For a relaxing time you can cruise down a short but beautiful section of the Li River or float down the Yulong on a bamboo raft. For the more energetic there’s the ever popular bike rides. Tour guides are best to show you out of the way places and help you engage with the local farmers. You can have a meal at their farm house. At the end of the day indulge in an affordable full body massage and while away the evening at numerous sidewalk cafes.
