Jaipur is one of India’s most captivating destinations. From its ancient royal history and architecture to its storybook desert landscapes, this Rajasthani capital is an unforgettable visit for both foreign and domestic tourists. When visitors think about this northwestern hub, the likes of the Hawa Mahal, various forts and gates and glistening “pink” streets immediately come to mind. However, for anyone who has paid a visit to Jaipur, they know that the Pink City is equally as well known for its amazing shopping.
A History of Artisans
Jaipur’s founders and rulers not only succeeded in creating a stunning, lasting royal city, but also encouraged artisans from all over India to make this destination their work and home base. Today, both royal remnants can be found within the city, making Jaipur one of India’s most unique shopping and touring destinations. From beautiful jewelry and leather goods to traditional handicrafts and textiles exclusive to the Jaipur region, visitors will have a difficult time leaving the Pink City without spending a large portion of their Rupees.
Jewelry
If you’re traveling India in search of the country’s best deals and options, when it comes to jewelry save your shopping for Jaipur, the gem capital of the country. Not only will you find jewelers all throughout this bustling city selling intricate kundan and polki adornments, but the jewellers will most likely find you as well. It’s not uncommon to be approached in the street by a passing stranger who, after some conversation and smooth talking, will ultimately invite you into their “family’s jewelry shop”. A word of caution: though this encounter can sometimes work in your favor, beware of gem scams, being trapped in uncomfortable situations and business offers that seem too good to be true.

If you’re looking to do some shopping in Jaipur, but don’t want to battle the harsh elements, October-March is the best time to visit.
