Every year more than 100 million Monarch butterflies migrate deep into Mexico from the U.S. and Canada to breed & hibernate on the branches of fir trees from November to March. They fly to mountain forests on the state lines of Mexico and Michoacan, where they number around 4 million per acre. Butterflies cloak fir trunks and hang on boughs in clusters of tens of thousands, turning the entire landscape a rich, flaming orange; it is an amazing sight! Only 3 out of 8 sanctuaries are open to tourists. Best time to watch them is when the sun heats the most is 1 to 3 PM. Good luck!
