The quaint town of Goris lies nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains and the Vararakn River. On the outskirts of the town is the Rock Forest, amazing rock formations created by the forces of nature. Locals inhabited these intriguing plains till very recently, as evidenced by the Old Khndzoresk Cave Village where the houses were originally constructed within the caves. Among other unique experiences, take a ride in the Tatev Aerial Tramway, the world’s longest cable car in the village of Halidzor. This will transport you straight up and through time to the ninth century Tatev Monastery, its tall thick stoned wall a testament to the building capabilities at the time. Perhaps one of the most interesting sights is the Ughtasar Petroglyphs on top of the Ughtasar Mountain. With no real roads, your Goris tour Guide will need to commandeer a 4X4 to navigate the steep and rocky terrain to the top. Once there, the views are spectacular, as one takes in amazing rock configurations with ancient petroglyphs that are around four to seven thousand years old.
