Puerto Iguazú is Argentina’s embassy at the tri-border confluence of Paraguay and Brazil, offering travellers making their way to the iconic waterfalls here a range of well-developed accommodation choices and some fantastic eateries. What’s more, Puerto Iguazú tour guides have some of the best excursion packages going for intrepid types looking to make the most out of the Iguazú National Park, its eponymous awe inspiring cataracts and wild surroundings of misty, broadleaf rainforest.
But the fabulous shows of nature aside, this frontier town also has interesting pockets such as an animal rescue centre, a theme park showcasing the richness of the Misiones rainforest and the Jesuit ruins in San Ignacio Miní. The town has also nurtured some interesting monuments to the human history that surrounds such a joining of nations at the heart of South America. For one, there’s the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, inviting visitors to make the jump into Brazil across the Iguazú River. Then there’s the Triple Border Milestone, from where guests can glimpse the rolling terrain of three separate countries.
