Speckled out over the Antilles chains of the Caribbean Sea, the Caribbean Netherlands is formed from the enticing trio of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and minute little Saba. While the latter two of these are a picture of the traditional Carib lands, sat nestled between the more trodden islands of Saint Bart’s and Saint Kitts and Nevis, Bonaire draws its veneer from its place just a stone’s throw from the coast of Venezuela. That means travelers to the tiny isles of Eustatius and Saba can expect the usual display of volcanic cliffs and jungle-dressed mountains that rise to a whopping (at least for the Netherlands) height of 887 meters with the misty caldera of Mount Scenery. Saba especially is known for its untouched backcountry, with dramatic villages like Windwardside and its whitewashed, red-tiled clutches of cottages sprawled over the inland greenery.
